Frames by The Black Penguins

Frames all started out as a jam and then in a few hours turned into a song with lyrics. Totally off the cuff lyrics. One of those golden moments of inspiration. Back in 2011 one day I sat down to just record myself jamming with no preconceived ideas. Then this riff began to brew. Frames (demo) is the first or second stereo recording on my Zoom H2 of guitar and vocals. Then I later put it into Ableton Live and added some parts but kept the original recording intact no overdubs.

Then it just sat on my computer until about 2013 when I made the “final version” of Frames. But let it sit on the shelf again. Finally in 2015 I decided to spend some time with this song and put together this single with four versions total. This is the first Black Penguins song with vocals.

BB King has died at 89

bb-king

BB King has died. He was 89. Born Riley B. King on September 16, 1925 near Itta Bena, Mississippi, U.S. Died May 14, 2015 Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.

After the cancellation of the remaining eight shows of his 2014 tour due to health problems, King announced on October 8, 2014 he was back at home to recuperate. On May 1, 2015, after two hospitalizations caused by complications from high blood pressure and diabetes, King announced on his website that he was in hospice care at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died there on May 14 at 9:40 P.M. PDT.

I am very sad today. BB King’s music has been a big part of life and my musical upbringing. His music will live on. I also have my memories. Visiting Memphis, TN with my Brother and Dad and going to the BB King Blues Club. My Dad talking to some buskers and asking if me and my brother could sit in with them. My brother played the drums and I played guitar on Beale Street for two songs. I will never forget that. I will also never forget going to see BB King with my Dad a few years later in Reno, NV and sharing a beer, I was only 19 I think. His simplicity in his playing is something I strive for. Less is more. That was the major lesson I learned from listening to him play.

Peace & love to him and his family.
